1957 Adler Privat Serial # 3036814 1957 Adler Privat typewriter, Serial # 3036814 Tas Kyprianou's 1957 Adler Privat typewriter. 2023-07-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Tas Kyprianou: 1957 Adler Privat Serial # 3036814 This was love at first sight about a year ago. Something about its proportions and styling just made me keep on looking for one. It's the kind of typewriter I'd expect to find in all the offices within The Chrysler Building in New York.

This, to me, is as pretty as my Adler Universal is ugly. Whilst it doesn't quite have the touch or feel the Universal has (not many machines do) this is a machine that reassures you with each keystroke and carriage return. Wasn't planning on getting any more machines so please excuse the poor imprint from the ribbon.

Elite-sized typeface . . . just as well really as once you sit down to this you somehow just keep on wanting to type.
The platen, despite being 66 years old, is nicely squidgy. Having just adjusted the backspace mechanism, this 1957-style icon now types just as beautifully as it looks. I'll enjoy having this sat behind me in the office for a goodly while.

(Thank you Gerren for the only YouTube clip I could find of it.)

This is some kind of patina but it looks as if the speckles were created that way. (They weren't)

These two rubber stoppers marked the ribbon cover.

Just in case anyone needs to remember how things looked before the bits fell onto the floor when removing platen.

Relatively new to the hobby - My first machine was an Everest Mod 90 that I bought after watching a Violet Evergarden anime in December 2021.
My collection now consists of 41 machines.

My absolute favourite remains (just) my 1939 Royal KMM. For me, it's both the prettiest and the "warmest" to type on. It has "Majik" (with a nod to Sandy1)
I count my blessings that I am lucky enough to have amassed such a beautiful bunch.
