Whitish gray + deep turquoise Underwood Ace. A very handsome portable that came with a cute two toned case.

I saw this one Facebook marketplace (see before picture) and I knew this typer had potential even though the keys and knobs were covered in off gassing. It was a bit of a hike away (about an hour drive) and the seller was on vacation for months after posting the listing. But still, I kept my eye on it. Months later it was still available so I couldn't pass it up.

This is the same typewriter that Tom Hanks recently gifted to Stephen Colbert on his show when he announced his retirement.
It's also one of my few portables that has the degree symbol. I love a degree symbol. Occasionally, I write the temperature at the top of my letters, under the date. That way, my penpals can get a feel for my environment when I write their letters :)
The "8" is rather special, too- he is wearing a little hat.

I love to write and found that writing on a typewriter is the most enjoyable and distraction-free way of doing it. I started with an Alphasmart, then moved to a Royalite, then to an Olympia SM5. The Olympia kept me fully satisfied for a good seven years until I got the bit by the collecting bug. Now I am slowly amassing my own personal typewriter museum. Typewriters are like personal printing presses. My partner is an engineer who can fix and clean any typewriter, so we make a great team.
