Description:
"Old Timer"
I acquired this from Duane Jensen (Phoenix Typewriter) in December 2021. This is by far my oldest electric. I honestly thought this was from 1957 due to the rare white holiday case and white "Electric" logo on the ribbon cover. As soon as I checked the serial and saw the very low number, that got me thinking it's from 1956 and not 1957. It is definitely an early 5TE model.
I had the platen recovered by JJ Short since it was hard. This oldie but goodie is working beautifully, inside and out.

Just a "Typewriter Nut". I like collecting technologies from the past such as typewriters especially the ones with special/rare typefaces. There's just something about learning how things were made (& worked) back in the day!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Electric Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Electric Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
