Description:
I was very pleased to be able to buy this machine from a very friendly elderly lady who was cleaning out the home she grew up in, after her last parent passed away.
She sold it to me as non-operable, with a stuck carriage, wondering if it would work ever again.
First Iâve cleaned out decades of dust and then started looking at what was the problem with the carriage. It was just old oil that prevented movement, almost like glue.
Cleaned that out and and after that cleaned the body with a moist cloth and whipped down the chrome with a dry cloth. I haven't done much else yet, and this typewriter from 1956 looks almost like new.
Aspa, for the logo on the back and the plastic dust cover I had to do some research, was a large Dutch company that produced office furniture and sold office machines, first started in Haarlem. They went bankrupt in 2010.
Although this machine is from 1956, itâs not a âde luxeâ version and doesnât have a tabulator, but that doesnât seem uncommon after seeing the SM4 gallery.
It also doesnât have plastic cardholders.
Four boxes of original Tipp-Ex came with this beauty, probably purchased in 1956 and only one box partially used. That is a nice bonus.

Hello,
Typerwriterfan from the Netherlands, recently bought a few typewriters again and started cleaning and adjusting them.
I haven't touched a typewriter in a long time, but it's fun working with them again.
This is a great database and I will try to contribute too.
Have a nice day,
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
