Description:
Pica type
German keyboard
After a long run of getting typewriters from Germany undamaged, this sad Mercedes arrived far beyond repair, so I sold it for parts.
A rather attractive typewriter in an odd sort of way. If you thought the Underwood portable design was stagnant here in the US, the design was even more stagnant in Germany under the Mercedes name.

I started collecting typewriters in 2006, but what started it all was using my mother's Brother Student-Riter XL1 in 2004. The next year I received my grandma's Smith-Corona Silent, which was enough to hold me over for a little while but eventually led to an obsession with manual portable typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Mercedes K45 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Mercedes Serial Number page and the Mercedes K45 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
