1956 Hermes Ambassador Serial # 785661 1956 Hermes Ambassador typewriter, Serial # 785661 Kevin Stallaert's 1956 Hermes Ambassador typewriter. 2023-08-29 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kevin Stallaert: 1956 Hermes Ambassador Serial # 785661 What a hulking office beast! Very cool machine that is fully tricked out. This Ambassador had a bad ass odor when I got it. But now it is cleaned and back as a Am-bad-ass-ador. I love the anti ghosting mechanism. There are a lot of screws to undo to get the machine out of its shell, but after that, you can access everything. Just the left carriage knob removal eludes me. I also got some cool extra supplies with it: two boxes with brushes, a cloth, a Hermes branded eraser and a Hermes branded oiler.

I fell into the typewriter rabbit hole due to nostalgia: I used to have a massive Olympia SG1 when I was a kid. It formed my typing habits, which is why I am called a "furious typer" by my coworkers. Came across the r/typewriters page on Reddit which rekindled my love for these wonderful machines. Lets just hope I don't start pushing screens off my desk when I reach the end of a line...

I also have a modest Youtube channel where I document the progress of my typewriter journey: https://www.youtube.com/@Slug_Life

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes Ambassador on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes Ambassador By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
