Description:
A thrift store find in a very dirty case which revealed this jewel in wonderful condition and needing only a little wipe down and some future cleaning of the insides (which aren't bad enough to warrant taking it apart yet). It types beautifully and has a nice feel to it for my fingers.
As well a little provenance was included taped to the inside lid which showed it having been owned I imagine by the Freeport Sanaitorium in Kitchener Ontario which was tuberculosis sanatorium throughout the 40's and 50's and later became the Grand River Hospital in Kitchen
It's a very smart looking blue and white. I think the only thing I don't care for, and it's insignificant really, is the knobs for the platen are just a bit too small feeling.

I like to collect vintage/retro items and have a pretty good collection of electric mixers, vacuums, telephones and typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Universal on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Universal By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
