Description:
Well, I finally got one of these little charmers and I’m glad to learn that it is a pretty good typer and a solid machine. Was afraid it would be a little tinny, like some later Underwoods I have seen. Not so. And the lines are just as silly-sweet as they look in pictures. While the green crinkle paint isn’t quite so elegant as the glossy chocolate-butterscotch, the black & white, or the turquoise-cream variants, I am happy to have this Jewell.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Jewell on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Jewell By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
