1955 Tower Tabulator Serial # LP-44736 1955 Tower Tabulator typewriter, Serial # LP-44736 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1955 Tower Tabulator typewriter. 2019-05-13 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1955 Tower Tabulator Serial # LP-44736 The Tower Tabulator is in original form a Consul President, manufactured in Czechoslovakia. In Canada and the United States, they were sold by Sears & Roebuck Co. in the 1950's. Even though in some ways one could argue that the build-quality of a 1950's Czechoslovakian product is no match to German or American engineering, one would be pleasantly surprised by the sturdiness of the frame on these President's, the stoutness of it's design. Acquired in a local antique store, the keys had oddly chemically disintegrated (literally liquefied) and Sean replaced the keys with those from an Underwood standard that was used for parts. In combination to the crinkle tan finish and the Royal inspired design, the mismatched keys are in some ways even more physically appealing compared to what it was fitted with originally. The typewriter types superbly crispy, to the point where one will have to get used to the odd feel of the keys, which really stands out from any other typewriter I could think off. Not unpleasantly so, though. Just different.
