1955 Olympia SM3 Serial # 641055 1955 Olympia SM3 typewriter, Serial # 641055 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1955 Olympia SM3 typewriter. 2016-05-27 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1955 Olympia SM3 Serial # 641055 There are two things I don´t like about this typewriter:

The first one is that it´s not mine. A good friend brought it knowing I enjoy these trinkets, but here comes the second thing I don´t like...

It doesn´t work. My friend said the carriage was jammed, and you can bet it is. And how. I suspect there´s something going terribly wrong inside it, and I don´t feel capable of dealing with that. I feel quite bad about it, because I hoped I could help my friend with that problem, since he wants to bring the typewriter back home in working condition and give it to his father (the original owner) as a present.

But I´m pretty sure the escapement is heavily damaged...

Therefore, what could have been a good story about a friend who gets his typewriter back into action (and a great one, BTW) has turned into a big failure. I really wish I could repair this guy!

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
