1955 Groma Kolibri Serial # 556908 1955 Groma Kolibri typewriter, Serial # 556908 Laurenz van Gaalen's 1955 Groma Kolibri typewriter. 2025-03-16 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Laurenz van Gaalen: 1955 Groma Kolibri Serial # 556908 Once serviced I find the Kolibri a nice machine to use. Despite its limited feature set, or maybe because of it.

The servicing is the challenging part; it takes quite some time. Partly because how the machine is built, partly because some parts are made of soft metal. This can cause all kind of issues. Think of binding keys (comb deformed) or a rubbing carriage (paper pan deformed). Adjusting the main spring tension is tricky (thereā€™s no rim on the top of the drum and the drawband is guided over a pulley).

Good to know: on this early model the key tension can be adjusted with the asymmetric washers on both ends of the bar that holds the return springs.

I live in The Netherlands.
Most common typewriter brands over here are Triumph/Adler, Olympia, Erika, Olivetti, Remington and Brother.
I collect and restore typewriters to learn about their design and to write with them.
