Description:
Gossen Tippa Pilot S/N 133228, in a lovely dark maroon. Major eye candy, with gull-wing ribbon covers, plus it's a very nice typer despite a rock-hard platen. The case has storage for "necessaries."
Depress the small spring-loaded lever at the base of the carriage return lever and it folds down to allow the lever end to nestle into a cutout notch in the base of the frame for storage. Very cool.
Very nice 12 pitch Elite typeface, that seems to me to have a slight whiff of Techno to it, but maybe that's just me.
This was an eBay purchase, after despairing of ever finding one locally. Some machines just aren't going to show up on Craigslist; you could grow old waiting. Seller followed packing instructions perfectly and USPS deposited it gently (yes, gently!) at my garage door under a covered overhang. Amazing.
Be nice to your local mail carrier and make sure you get him/her a nice gift card at Christmas time, it will be the best investment you ever made.

Collecting typewriters off and on for 25 years, more "on" the last couple years. Meshes well with my other collecting hobby, fountain pens. Typewriters seem to find me, I don't have to look for them. First there are a couple, then 10, then 20, then 50...its getting out of hand.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Gossen Pilot on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Gossen Serial Number page and the Gossen Pilot By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
