1954 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 5A 472232 1954 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter, Serial # 5A 472232 Jer Wal's 1954 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter. 2016-03-31 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Jer Wal: 1954 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 5A 472232 Made in U.S.A. 12-pitch Courier font. Dark gray crinkle paint with dark green accent color. Half off tag at St Vinnies meant I only paid $6.99 for this beauty. Some paint wear on the ribbon cover. I've reduced the skipping problem by loosening the draw string tension. Nice case. Steady, solid feel. It even came with a decent ribbon (although it's cotton and I can see why most have switched to nylon with all the type slug cleaning I've been doing). I put a no-skid mat on the table to keep it in place when typing.

Somebody must have habitually rested their palm on the ribbon cover to wear the paint off like this.

Ribbon reverse on the right side won't work. I'm not sure why yet.

I love the way the spring drum and the escapement are right out in the open on this machine!

The pounding typebar, having writ, moves on... unless there's a ding.
