This came to me from a Facebook Marketplace listing.

It seems to be in good shape. Occasionally, it will skip and add a space. I’ve read that this is a common challenge with these. The left platen knob appears to be a replacement.

It types wonderfully. I’m not sure how to describe the typing feel. It isn’t the buttery feeling of the Hermes 3000. It doesn’t have the snappiness of an Olympia SM9. But, it isn’t slow by any means. I could see myself typing a novel on this.

Repairs / Replacements
When I acquired this typewriter, the feet were hard and crumbling. I turned to Toronto Typewriters for new feet. The feet that were on the typewriter were grey. I’m not sure if these were original or if they had been replaced in the past. See the photo which shows the four old feet and one of the new, black feet from Toronto Typewriters.

The ribbon spools that came with it were plastic, so I replaced them with metal spools.

Back in high school, my dad would bring home one of the office typewriters, a Brother daisy wheel with a built-in word processor, for me to use. That might be my first typewriter. I don't know what happened to it. I bought a Cannon Starwriter afterwards to take to college. Fast forward to 2025, and I started wondering if there could be benefits of using a typewriter in my writing routines.

Little did I know that typewriters have the ability to reproduce. A Remington Quiet Riter led to a Royal KMG and Underwood De Luxe Leader pair, and the process continued. Now I have a dozen.
