Description:
Clean Hermes 2000 that I found in an antiques shop in Manchester, Connecticut in December 2022. It was in nice condition except for a crack in one of the plastic corners that didn't affect the operation of the typewriter. Hermes 2000s still had a carriage shift, but otherwise it had the same smooth feel of a later Hermes machine. For some reason I loved the case on this one; I know it just looks like a normal tweed case from the era, but something about the handle and the latches felt so much more "Swiss". Dealer tag from Woods Typewriter Co. in Providence, Rhode Island.
Sold to another collector in March 2023.

I "accidentally" started collecting typwriters in the fall of 2020. After my daughter got one cheap at a junk shop, and hearing that she intended to use it to write some old fashioned snail-mail letters to friends, I decided to get "a" typewriter myself to do the same. The first one was a real lucky break: a pristine 1950 Smith-Corona Sterling in perfect condition. From there I got interested in other brands and in refurbishing dirty and forgotten machines. I've had 65+ typewriters at this point, passing many along to excited new owners to keep my collection hovering around 20 machines.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 2000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 2000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
