Description:
This Gossen had an irreparable carriage return mechanism. Hein Reinders was so kind to send me his Gossen that was in bad shape, but had a working carriage return. However, Hein’s machine (serial number 107253) had the older model carriage return and accompanying body.
The plan was to swap the left carriage ends (including the return mechanisms) and the bodies. It turned out that the carriage ends were slightly different. As a result, the paper bail and eraser plate became misaligned. That problem was solved by swapping the right carriage ends too.
More parts were used from Hein’s Gossen: a few keys, typebars and a typebar linkage. The paper tray and feed rollers were replaced with those from a later Triumph/Adler Tippa. The platen was replaced by a recovered one I had lying around.
I am especially fond of the two dealer stickers; they perfectly represent the fact that this machine has been repaired with the help of another machine. (Thanks Hein!)
P.S. The case lock is ingenious. It locks itself by gravity when the case is lifted to a vertical position.

I live in The Netherlands.
Most common typewriter brands over here are Triumph/Adler, Olympia, Erika, Olivetti, Remington and Brother.
I collect and restore typewriters to learn about their design and to write with them.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Gossen Tippa on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Gossen Serial Number page and the Gossen Tippa By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
