Description:
A fascinating and rare little ultraportable. It might not be my best typer, but I always smile when I use it. Though it's about the size of a Skywriter, I find the touch to be a little heavier and much smoother. It is a well-built machine indeed.
I found this machine at an estate sale in 2023 in the corner of a room behind an Underwood 5 and a Selectric I. The owner was born and living in Poland when Germany invaded in 1939 and eventually fled Germany by hopping a merchant ship. He then joined the Canadian navy and served in the Korean War. An altogether fascinating life, and I have dubbed this machine "Seigfriend" in his honor.
One keyboard note I find interesting - the tilda key at the far right end of the top row of keys does not advance the carriage. If you shift and type the key, it creates a ^ character. I bet this was deliberate.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brosette Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brosette Serial Number page and the Brosette Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
