Description:
The Halberg Junior # 14100
This machine has been restored without trying to make it as new. It is cleaned, tacky oil has been removed, the platen has been grinded. Two screws were missing, found inside as heavily damaged and made anew. Now it works fine.
Look and smell.
The spacebar needed a new finish.
The (steel) lid of the case needed slight dent repair.
The side skirts of the carriage are made in thin and soft aluminium and had to be straightened.
The sound-dampening slab of asphalt (or what is it?)on the bottom plate has been sealed with clearcoat to dampen the smell that it produces. I liked the smell of motor-oil on a hot plate (Aah, Bentley!) but not everyone does.
The machine is all steel except for the frame with is cast aluminium alloy and the carriage fenders, in sheet aluminium.
The Halberg-factory originally produced steel shafts in Weert, the Netherlands and started producing a typewriter after the design of a German engineer. Someday I may find his name. The factory moved to Cuijk, the Nederlands and was bought by Royal (‘s Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands) in 1954. Its design has evolved over the years and is applied in the Royalite, the Brillant and others
From the outside design, the Halberg may resemble the Hermes Baby but it is totally different, inside and out.

As a retired product development engineer, I am fascinated by the design of electro-mechanical products in which parts move, make noise and, preferably, radiate a little heat. Most preferred are products that are operated by keys, like typewriters, accordeons and pianos.
My genetics and statistics on lifetime expectancy suggest that it is time for me to let you know about the fantastic design, product engineering and manuacturing skills of the generation before mine. I salute mr. Munk for the opportunity that he has created for me to show it to the world. Okay, a bit bombastic.
