Description:
Pica type
German keyboard
Collection of Brad Coulter. I noticed this had a slightly different typeface from the Erika 9 I used to own, as well as other Erikas from the same time. Most noticeably the middle point of the W is lower.
We worked on it together, fixing the line advance mechanism which was missing two screws and had a broken spring.

I started collecting typewriters in 2006, but what started it all was using my mother's Brother Student-Riter XL1 in 2004. The next year I received my grandma's Smith-Corona Silent, which was enough to hold me over for a little while but eventually led to an obsession with manual portable typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Erika 9 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Erika Serial Number page and the Erika 9 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
