1952 Union (Rooy) Master Serial # 526 133 1952 Union (Rooy) Master typewriter, Serial # 526 133 Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp's 1952 Union (Rooy) Master typewriter. 2021-05-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp: 1952 Union (Rooy) Master Serial # 526 133 I once saw a rust red Master Typewriter on French Ebay, and wanted to have one since. When this Union Typewriter popped up, I didn´t wait long, and took a four hour journey to pick it up. I don´t know anything about its production date or name, but have seen a mentioning from Richard Polt on that somewhere, but I couldn´t find it now. What I know is, that it has the insides of an Underwood 5 or similar, and its design is related to the rounded curves of a Rooy IN , which has also Underwood mechanics.

The Typewriter was in secreterial use in an traditional steel manufacturing company in Saarland/ Germany, and was token with the Secretary for personal use, after the company changed to computers. Her doughter sold it to me, and said that her Mother had used it till 2010, and the fact that it works pretty good still, indicates that too.

This Model, even in QWERTZ is very rare here in Germany, and I haven´t seen another one since I bought it. I imagine that through the close border to France, the company maybe had some ties to the French Industrie in the 50´s (somewhat), and maybe ordered there some QWERTZ Union Office Typewriters for theire use, but that the model and Brand was never widely distributed in Germany.
