Description:
No model marking on this standard, however, given the years during which it was produced, it's a no-frills version of the more popular Smith-Corona Model 88A (Eighty-Eight).
This particular model might be a little tough on the eyes because it's still as filthy as the day I bought it, but this Smith-Corona is none-the-less a nice typewriter to use and I would never hesitate to spend a full day at its keyboard.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona 88 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona 88 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
