Description:
Well this acquisition was interesting. I think Kijiji seller originally posted it for $40. When I went to look at it, it smelled horrible and was just a basic Royal that I'd never heard of, so figured I'd pass. Seller just wanted rid of it - she was like just take it. But I couldn't do that because she looked like she needed money, so settled on ten bucks. What was I going to do with this? Cleaned it out and set it out in the sun for several days which got rid of the smell and it ain't half bad, I have to say. Made in Canada, run of the mill Royal. It's no QDL, but it gets the job done. Just needs a little love.

My father brought with him a Hermes Rocket when he emigrated from the UK to Canada in 1967 and I remember playing with it as a kid. This memory was reignited while I was in Montreal for work this past February and came across a stationery shop that had five typewriters in the window. When I got home, I went on the hunt for my first typewriter - caught the bug and haven't stopped!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal Keystone on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal Keystone By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
