1952 Olivetti Studio 44 Serial # 439536 1952 Olivetti Studio 44 typewriter, Serial # 439536 Fumitaka Hayashi's 1952 Olivetti Studio 44 typewriter. 2026-05-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Fumitaka Hayashi: 1952 Olivetti Studio 44 Serial # 439536 A 1952 Olivetti-Underwood Studio 44, with #75 Script typeface.

This one comes with the case, which included the original manual.

I have an Olympia SM4 in the same typeface, but that one was a single-color ribbon model. I assumed that the tall script with the big descending capital E and C precluded two-color ribbons, but this model is equipped for two-color ribbons, and the typeface works perfectly fine with two-color ribbons...

There is nothing affixing the typewriter to the case, other than the little cut-outs in the plastic where the rubber feet fit in. It's hard to tell by the picture, but the case is a trapezoid with the smaller end being at the handle, where the space bar is pointed.

This one is in pretty good shape.

Another Goodwill auction win... which was kind of pricey. Shipped out of northern California.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.

Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti Studio 44 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti Studio 44 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
