Description:
This is an IBM Model A from the early 50's. When I purchased it the only think that was wrong with the machine was that the carriage return clutch was worn down to the point that it would not function. I was able to find a NOS clutch for this machine on eBay and it now functions perfectly. I used a model exactly like this one when I first started collage in the early 1980's and was really happy to find an identical one to that machine that I could add to my collection.
These are a very straight forward electric that are built like tanks. In spite of the industrial look, this model has a very light touch that is really to use.

I am an IT professional who truly appreciates older technology. I am a moderate typewriter hunter with a small but growing collection. I like machines from all era's. In my office at work I have typewriters as part of my decor and explain the significance of the machines to anyone who is unfortunate enough to get trapped :-) I really am glad to have found this database and group of collectors.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Model A on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Model A By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
