Description:
No. 9 in my collection - Smith Corona Sterling. This one has the inconvenient tab stops where you have to physically remove metal tabs and move them to where you want the tab button to stop. I imagine it saves on complexity, but it does increase the inconvenience.
Otherwise, another solid performer, working mostly flawlessly. Case also in fair condition. The different case mounting systems from different manufacturers and different eras of manufacture is quite interesting. The hinge mechanism on this case seems unnecessarily complex.
Still has sticker from likely most recent reseller. The sticker has a FAX number, so it can't date to the original manufacture.
Another Goodwill online auction acquisition. This one shipped from Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.
Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Sterling on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Sterling By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
