I can't say whether this typewriter was damaged during shipping or before. But damaged it is. In fact, more than having been dropped the poor thing looks like it has been beaten. The carriage wobbles, the back panels are bent, a screw fell off... I don't know how this victim of fate has managed to produce a readable typeface sample. Readable and clearly showing how the typeslugs hit the platen on the wrong spot because the platen can be found at several places, ability gained through hard training (and a beating).
I don't know if I can dismantle and reassemble this typewriter solving all the issues in the process, but I feat this could involve bent parts which should never bend. Bad omens for this Remington...

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.
A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
