Description:
This is a 1950 Underwood Rhythm touch standard with a 14" platen. I rescued it in what appeared to be fairly bad condition after passing it up a couple times after I noticed that it has Victoria Elite typeface. A rather quality machine, very smooth action, solid feeling. The platen is incredibly easy to remove, all four front/back/side panels just pop out easily with no screws, and the plates on the left/right tops of the carriage just pop up on hinges as well. I repaired the vast majority of the issues it had (feed rollers, backspacer, bent space bar connector, bent tab brake bar, sluggish ribbon vibrator). It is still a work in progress, mostly now just needs more cleaning although I did clean the front plate, platen and keyboard. Really solid machine in general.

Collector and maintenance/repair enthusiast, writer of poetry, letters and fiction. Currently have over two dozen machines, has been an interest of mine for years but only became serious about it recently (in 2024). Typewriters have become my primary passion in life, though I still enjoy doing other things from time to time. Typing outdoors is arguably my favorite thing to do. Note that I have only just begun cataloguing my collection here, I am hoping to enter at least one a day but we'll see.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Rhythm Touch on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Rhythm Touch By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
