Description:
Oh this guy was abused in a former life. All screws are loose if present, the drawband was loose, the mainspring was actually BENT, and the smell is unholy.
Been working on it off and on since mid September to get it in functioning order. Did manage to straighten the pivot screw for the mainspring and hope to get it reassembled here soon. Cleaning continues on exterior pieces, including mold inhibitor spray on all felt to try to knock out the smell.
I'm normally one for color authenticity, but I think this one is going to get a paint job.

I am quite new to the typewriter world (first bought 6/2023), but I sort of jumped right in with three typewriters in my first week. I am interested in the mechanics of manual typewriters, as well as have an affinity for cleaning up long-forgotten gems. I'm a Smith-Corona fiend, but any nice typewriter will do!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Sterling on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Sterling By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
