Description:
A nice Olympia SM1 specimen from 1950s in attractive burgundy color body. The first model of the SM series was very similar to the Optima Elite from DDR, and both were a clear derivation of the pre-war Olympia Progress. The Olympia SM series was very popular and successful in Germany in the 50s. The body color was usually in olive green, while black for the SM series typewriters was not common. In addition to green, black and burgundy, other colors were ivory and a very nice (and very rare) blue.

I have been an Italian typewriter collector for many many years. At that time, I loved very old typewriters from late 1800s to early 1900s. After a break of a few years I returned to collect typewriters but no longer so old, I prefer now the design of the 40's, 50's and 60's. Yes, I am an affectionate collector of Olivetti, of course, but I'm attracted to all the other brands from that period, not just Italian.
