194X Patria (Spain) Patria Serial # S20217 194X Patria (Spain) Patria typewriter, Serial # S20217 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 194X Patria (Spain) Patria typewriter. 2022-08-31 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 194X Patria (Spain) Patria Serial # S20217 Third Patria, found by chance.

I was told that a guy who (among other things) does house clearings had some typewriters and If I was interested I could have them. One of them is this nice Patria. I bet he didn't even open the case, because when a shiny, old looking typewriter materialised before his eyes he was like "wow". How could I let it go away? It's in good condition except for the ribbon, but apart from that it belongs to the first generation of the Spanish Patrias, which are almost (if not) identical to the original Swiss Patria so this is enough to guarantee a good machine.

Apart from the good catch, with this typewriter I've finally learned where the s/n is hiding. Patrias always come attached to a wooden platform (at least Spanish Patrias), and in order to reach the s/n you have to remove the platform. Not exactly hard, but the s/n shouldn't be in a place accessible only after taking out 4 screws.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
