194X Mercedes Addelektra SR 22 Serial # 24867 194X Mercedes Addelektra SR 22 typewriter, Serial # 24867 Vlastimil Novak's 194X Mercedes Addelektra SR 22 typewriter. 2024-02-04 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Vlastimil Novak: 194X Mercedes Addelektra SR 22 Serial # 24867 One day Milan Berta sent me this. It can be interesting for you he wrote. It was. Some guy in Slovakia had been selling it for more than a year and was gradually lowering the asking price. From the photos was obvious that the motor was missing, but the overall shape was good. Not every Addelektra is lucky enough to have its totalisers and it was cheap so I bought it. The guy packed it fabulously on a pallet and sent it to my parent's house because they have an attic :D
It is the most magnificent typewriter in my collection. Typewriter... It is also a table. From a certain angle, it looks like an airplane with wooden wings. When the machine is hinged, it looks like a giant robot dinosaur's mouth.
I apologize for the quality of the photos. It arrived in November and I had one day to sort it out when I was visiting family between holidays. Sun was rising and I started to disassemble it, so not much cleaning and staging was done. I managed to tear it apart, even the table was bolted together, so I was able to carry it on killer stairs into the attic and assemble it again with a whole can of gun oil used up to conserve it.
Rust is quite bad in some places, mostly on the carriage but the mechanisms were well cared for and oiled so they are in good shape. At some point, someone was messing with it and was not able to get it back together properly so some parts were packed loose. Mysteriously, two typebars are missing, and a few parts from the accounting part of the keyboard.
It is a project for future me. Much older me. I have already bought a rustbucket Electra, so I have those missing typebars available as well as screws and springs from the same manufacturer. It is Electra with a newer engine, so the mounts are not compatible. On this Addleketra is an older motor, which is equipped with a receptacle and is easily put in and secured with two pins. I can use any ordinary motor. All I need is just fabricate a coupler to mate it with the gearbox. The worst part is the necessity to understand, how the hell it is supposed to work and those missing parts in the accounting part of the keyboard.
Now it is oiled and waiting for better days. If someone knows about someone with a parts machine like this, please send a word.

I am a passionate amateur mechanic from the Czech Republic, and I have always mesmerized by the complexity of typewriters since my childhood. The first one (Zeta 1501) was just a toy to me in the beginning, but by every year I got older I got also better at understanding how it is working and how to disassemble it and assemble it again. The second one was Ideal DZ33 which started my love for antique machines with all the chrome and glass keys.
My machines range from mint ones through a majority of well-used machines to piles of rust that I have repaired to be typewriters again which is a lot of fun for me.
I am quite obsessed with the beauty and technical genius of standard Continentals. I love how they were producing one model of a typewriter from 1904 to the '50s with constant changes in design and my goal is to collect every decal and every major variation of them.
