1949 Royal KMG Serial # KMG88-3895546 1949 Royal KMG typewriter, Serial # KMG88-3895546 Kevin Stallaert's 1949 Royal KMG typewriter. 2021-06-03 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kevin Stallaert: 1949 Royal KMG Serial # KMG88-3895546 When I spotted this KMG on a local ad site, I immediately arranged a meeting with the seller. She was selling things from an aunt who had moved to a retirement home. The picture on the ad site already revealed it was in pretty good shape. I normally don't like stickers, but I make an exception for this one: that label indicates that this typewriter was supplied as a part of the Marshall plan after world war 2. I'll add a typeface when I cleaned this machine. It runs very smooth and the magic margin system still works. Probably the nicest typewriter in my collection (for now).

And it came with an authentic dust cover. Will have to see if it can be restored. Age removed the black color from the stitches and the plastic cover cracked at the return handle. The stitches are intact though.

I fell into the typewriter rabbit hole due to nostalgia: I used to have a massive Olympia SG1 when I was a kid. It formed my typing habits, which is why I am called a "furious typer" by my coworkers. Came across the r/typewriters page on Reddit which rekindled my love for these wonderful machines. Lets just hope I don't start pushing screens off my desk when I reach the end of a line...

I also have a modest Youtube channel where I document the progress of my typewriter journey: https://www.youtube.com/@Slug_Life

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal KMG on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal KMG By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
