Description:
Another one of those unidentified Underwoods. Yard sale find. Decent but sticky.
I think the "II" prefix on the serial number is a reference to the platen width, 11 inches.
This is cleaning up pretty well. The major functions now work. Margins are flakey, to put it mildly, though that's not surprising with Underwood's front-margin complications.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood SS on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood SS By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
