A lover of toys and tools and things with movement. As a boy, my mother introduced me to her Smith-Corona and I immediately fell in love with its mechanical intricacies and the smell of the ink-scented carrying case liner. The organizer of my domestic world, she had her own delightful smells. She sat me down, fed a sheet of paper into the machine and turned me loose for the afternoon. She is long gone now but that day is revisited so easily with the flip of the latch.
