1947 Halda 6 Serial # 6-138387 1947 Halda 6 typewriter, Serial # 6-138387 Kewin Sanfridsson's 1947 Halda 6 typewriter. 2024-11-13 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kewin Sanfridsson: 1947 Halda 6 Serial # 6-138387 [Introduction]
Here we got my second typewriter equipped with a extra wide carriage. It's a Halda 6. Quite a common machine here in Sweden, but not with a carriage this large! I got to admit I am actually very proud over this one for two reasons. 1) Because I am really fond of typewriters with these humongous carriages and 2) I have spent quite some time removing rust and trying to clean it up. It's not perfect quite yet but I was too excited about sharing it with all of you that the small adjustments can be done afterwards. This specific Halda 6 was made in 1947 right here in Sweden. What still needs to be done is some adjustment to the typebar slugs, removing a few small spots of rust which I saw while I took the pictures which I had missed and carefully tighten the spring just a little bit as of right now the tension is a bit loose which results in the last 7-ish spaces to the far right on the platen unreachable with out manual assistance. The colour ribbon is depleted so that will be a thing which I will need to get sorted out as well.

[Dimensions]
Width: 79cm / ~31inch
Depth: 38cm / ~15inch
Height: 23cm / ~9inch
Platen: 52.5cm / ~20.7inch

[Design]
To say something about the design of the Halda 6 as a whole is that I don't find it as attractive as other desktop typewriters of the time. But I do like the colour scheme and the textured paint. I guess it might be that it looks very simple compared to the Halda Cicero and 7-Star. It is very easily serviceable though as all the panels on every side comes of just by a few very accessibly placed screws. It is also handy to be able to switch the colour ribbons direction so easily. If could I would rather have had the more square green keys on other Halda typewriters instead of these black small round keys but adds to the design. I think if I wouldn't be collecting typewriters I would probably bought a Halda 6 as a decorative piece. But the extra wide carriage makes up for all of the negatives.

[Features]
It got the standard tabulator and tabulator setter of course! Margin release and talking about release it got a platen disengage button on the left platen knob. Also a backspace which is quite nice to have.

[Typing Experience]
Typing on a well maintained Halda 6 is a very nice experience in my opinion. Though as this specific Halda 6 is not completely fixed yet it doesn't feel as nice to write on as can be.

[Conclusion]
This one sure was some work on but easily worth it! This one will really get a place of honor in my collection. If you find a Halda 6 no matter the carriage/platen size, at a decent price then I recommend to buy one it is a sturdy workhorse which is very easily serviced. But try to avoid getting 5 which I got because it is a desktop typewriter and they actually do take up space believe it or not.😆 I got another Halda 6 which I am working on currently not with quite as large of a carriage.😅 So keep a eye open for that if your interested in seeing yet another Halda 6.

Hope you liked my review or what you could call it. Cheers!

Hi my name is Kewin and I'm a 24 years old from Sweden. I have a few hobbies like drawing and playing guitar but I do also like myself some project here and there which is where my interest in typewriters fits in. I have always collected things through my life but I did not expect typewriters to be my next big passion in collecting. I started collecting typewriters in the beginning of 2022 and so far I have 80* of them (3 of which is currently disassembled) . I find it really enjoyable to pickup a typewriter at a thrift store/second hand and starting to clean it up and get it to a working condition to the best of my ability and knowledge. (Excuse all the dog hairs in my pictures, I do actually try to remove the hair before taking the pictures. xD) Cheers!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Halda 6 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Halda Serial Number page and the Halda 6 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
