1946 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 4A 206838 1946 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter, Serial # 4A 206838 Brent Wegher's 1946 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter. 2023-09-04 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Brent Wegher: 1946 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 4A 206838 Excellent condition, kept dry, very little wear, some dust.
Pica typeface, US keyboard
Case also in above average condition.
All functions good, no sticky keys, the margin release key works when depressed, but needs to be pulled up to reset, will look for a spring problem.
Platen condition OK, hard but usable.
Came with original users manual in manila envelope. There is a print code on the envelope with '4-47' that looks like a month/date code.
But this is a 1946 machine, so there may be a shipping/packing issue if the paper manual was actually printed in 1947

This model has a "Tab" key that does release the carriage, but there is nothing to stop the carriage. There are two manual tab stops in back but nothing in the carriage to engage them. Will look at the mechanism more later.
Why have a Tab key that has nothing to do with the tab stops??
