1946 Smith Corona Silent Serial # 4S121084 1946 Smith Corona Silent typewriter, Serial # 4S121084 Anthony Farah's 1946 Smith Corona Silent typewriter. 2022-06-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Anthony Farah: 1946 Smith Corona Silent Serial # 4S121084 This is "my" first typewriter. I remember typing on it back in the early 1970s when I was 5 or 6 years old. This was the typewriter which my dad used to get through law school...it's probably responsible for me going to law school much later. But by then, computers were all the rage. (I even had one of those new-fangled "laptops" by then.) This Silent was one of two typewriters in our house in those days. The other one, to the best of my recollection, was a newer (like 1950s-ish) Silent-Super in green with ivory-color keys. I wonder what ever became of that one.

I fell down the analog hobby rabbithole and have no intention of climbing out. As a child, I wrote my school research papers on the 1946 Smith-Corona Silent that my father used to get through law school. By the time I went to law school, new-fangled computers were all the rage. But I kept my dad's Smith-Corona. In the decades since, I've found a few other typewriters and use them to write fiction for fun and pose them with the film cameras to which I am hopelessly addicted.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Silent on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Silent By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
