Description:
An Underwood Universal, in fair shape.
The special thing about this one is the case - it has the folding stand.
Interestingly, the serial number puts the manufacture date right before the WW2 production pause according to the SN list. The closest SN Universal is another one with the folding stand. Makes you wonder if that is a coincidence or not.
The folding legs are rather thin, but seems to be reasonably rigid. I think slight oxidation of the legs and/or slight deformation of the plastic tip makes it a bit difficult to unfold the last bit. When extended, there are spring-loaded tabs that hold everything together.
This one was acquired from Facebook Marketplace, from someone who lives in Kingston, NY.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.
Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Universal on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Universal By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
