Description:
Originally, I saw this posted on an Antique Shop’s Facebook page, but when I inquired to see if it still available - as it is quite far from where I live - I was told that it was sold. I forgot about it until my Dad and I happened to be in the area and I was stunned to find that it was not sold after all. Unfortunately, some of the key levers inside, under the typebasket, had become detached and bent but I decided I couldn’t leave it behind.
Once home, I got the key levers unbent and reattached and the machine was working again. Sadly, though, it just doesn’t feel quite right when typing. I have cleaned it and it has made some difference, but it’s not going to be an everyday machine for me. Still, it is a stunning machine.
More pictures and type sample to follow.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Silent on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Silent By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
