Description:
I knew it had problems, but I have a clipped parts machine. Otherwise, I don't think I would've bothered with this one. So it is a composite of the two. There are some link/alignment issues on the left side and I am in "good enough" mode after line advance, backspace, trip and margin release issues are sorted. It's a handsome little machine machine and the last of the carriage shifters.
For 1940: QDL, Arrow, Aristocrat, Companion and Mercury.
See the ID tag that was wired into it. School?
Note the Dec 1942 ad where there is an "unrestricted" sale of new typewriters.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal Companion on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal Companion By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
