1940 Imperial 50 Serial # Z033639 1940 Imperial 50 typewriter, Serial # Z033639 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1940 Imperial 50 typewriter. 2019-07-09 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1940 Imperial 50 Serial # Z033639 One of those bizarre things that you wouldn't expect; An Imperial 50.... in Italic.
This was a find that happened during a 'field trip' to Edmonton, and was one of the better events of the trip. In the entire antique emporium which had a plethora of machines, none of them called out to me, but upon finding this one (on the floor, no less) and seeing that it was in both amazing condition cosmetically (as well as almost functional) I couldn't say no once I saw the typeface and the $45 price tag.
Considering this machine was built while there was a war on, and it was otherwise a superfluous machine considering the size and the typeface, I wonder what the original purpose was; something that will never be known.
Imperials have the distinction of having both a removable basket and removable carriages. I would've preferred a narrow carriage model, but I can't complain!
