1939 Underwood Master Serial # M5086396 -11 1939 Underwood Master typewriter, Serial # M5086396 -11 Gerald Ambrose's 1939 Underwood Master typewriter. 2023-02-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Gerald Ambrose: 1939 Underwood Master Serial # M5086396 -11 A very nice machine to use. It seems like it has a smaller font compared to most desktop machines.

This Underwood M/Master does not have some of the 'cowling" or "shrouding" on the back and sides of the carriage that most of these Ms seem to have.

The other unique thing about this model M is that the scale on the front goes from 0 to 108. Most of the ones I have seen only go up to about 90.

Update - 3/21/2017 - I wanted this machine to be with the others so I changed the model from Master to 'M.' Technically it is a Master model.

Update - 8/7/2017 - Left the collection. Sold with four others to a teacher who intends to show them to his students and have them use them with supervision.
I will say that I will miss this machine, but I am glad that it is going to someone who will give it more use than I did.

Update - 2/10/2023 - Changed model to Master.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
