1938 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 2A43885 1938 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter, Serial # 2A43885 Tom Beauvais's 1938 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter. 2020-08-22 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Tom Beauvais: 1938 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 2A43885 Antique mall purchase in northern Indiana. Not sure of SN. In the DB listing, the 2A series starts with 50694 for 1938. Finally found a maroon machine from the 1930s However, the carriage does notj move to the left when I press down on the space bar. I had to move the carriage in increments by itself to attempt a typeface specimen. Some keys stick. The ribbon with the correcting stuff (like paint) I took out--I hate those type of ribbons. I used carbon paper for the typeface specimen. This machine will be nice for display. SOLD to a friend 16Oct2017.

Changed my collecting priorities to portables except the Olympia SG3 with the cyrillic keyboard and my Underwood No. 5--those beasts are too heavy. Sold my earlier typewriters to a friend. I had too many. I use carbon paper for typefaces when the machines have faint ribbons. I take photos with my Canon Powershot SX50HS (50x optical zoom and macro settings). I find it difficult doing typeface specimens since I use a Corsair K70 RGB gaming keyboard plugged into my 15-in Macbook. I got it solely for the deep key travel. I have fun hunting machines in antique malls in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
