1938 Smith Corona Silent Serial # 2S 62806 1938 Smith Corona Silent typewriter, Serial # 2S 62806 Wayne Bouchard's 1938 Smith Corona Silent typewriter. 2024-03-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Wayne Bouchard: 1938 Smith Corona Silent Serial # 2S 62806 A L.C. Smith & Corona Silent 2S typewriter, made in 1938. Gloss black with the "speedline" body style. Equipped with Standard Pica No. 1 typeface.
Took a little while to clean up (there was white rust all over the bare steel parts and it didn't want to come off easily) but the results were well worth it. After a tuneup, everything seems to work flawlessly. There may still be one or two things I haven't detected yet that need to be done to it, but this is a great little typewriter!

The margin and tab bar were covered with white rust. I got most of it off but some wouldn't come and rather than brush or polish it, I decided to let it go. As long as it isn't powdery, it isn't a detriment to the typewriter and actually resumes its role as a protectant. When i got this, the decals here were all still gold, but one swipe with the cleaning cloth, and it all came off. I didn't even scrub! Disappointing but not unexpected.

The case cleaned up nicely! I still have a bit of fabric to lay back down, but it looks almost new otherwise.
