Description:
Given to me by the grandson of the original owner, Francis W. Proctor (d. 1964). Proctor graduated Lawrence College in Appleton, WI where he met his wife, daughter of the Outagamie County school superintendent. With two degrees in music, he became a college professor at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC before his death at age 56. Family lore recorded this as Proctor's college typer, and it does include an instruction booklet stamped "E. W. Shannon, Distributor, Appleton, WI", but by 1938 Proctor had moved away from Appleton. His widow gave this typewriter to their grandson who used it as his college typer between 1978 and 1982. Minimal maintenance needed: one flat roller easily reshaped.
