Description:
As found excellent condition. Apothecary symbols. See Smith Corona lit for what they mean. A good day of hunting!!!

A couple hours of basic service. It was most likely serviced prior to the last owner's purchase. It was too clean and this doesn't match the obvious usage wear. I found a carriage bearing star wheel inside it, which gave me a moment of concern until I made sure all four were in place. Royal carriage bearings are a PIA and a serious weak link in the entire portable lineup.

Press release with some details I bet haven't been seen:
Wiant's Book Store at 120 South Main street is now displaying the new Royal Deluxe Portable typewriter just released from the factory, This new model comes in a new beautiful Kem finish in colors of black, dark maroon or dark green. Besides giving the typewriter new and distinctive appearance it is also finger-print proof. Chromium plated bands encircle both top and bottom edges. All metal parts of the typewriter are chromium plated and the inner workings are cadmium dipped--giving the utmost protection against rust and corrosion. This new model one most silent of so-called 'silent' machines.
Tested on a Westinghouse sound recording machine, it was shown that the Royal Deluxe portable was five points more silent than any of the leading noiseless portable typewriters, An Improved impression roller is better at silencing and the former rawhide and fibre parts have been replaced with metal making it more durable. The machine can be furnished with any type style at an additional charge..

As with many, the bug is back there somewhere due to an Underwood No. 5. My grandparents had a No 5. My parents had a yellow Royal Safari that I used to index card everything, including a beer can collection. Collection syndrome clue! A casual interest in typewriters started with a garage sale 3 bank simply because it said Underwood on it. Typewriters were found here and there , but I wasn't actively looking for them. The long dormant collecting tic was activated when my neighbors left a Remington Quiet Riter on the curb when they moved.
Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal De Luxe on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal De Luxe By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
