Description:
It was a long time that I was looking for an Olivetti mp1 in the classic smooth black color and white keyboard. A 30s classic. But I wanted it in absolutely perfect condition. I finally had the good fortune to find it the other day in a flea store in Milan. It's an 82 year old machine but it seems to have left the factory yesterday. Unbelievable conditions. Paid maybe a little too much but I thought it was worth it. Note on the backside the autarky stamps typical of Italian production in the period 1938 - 1939. Another strange peculiarity of this specimen : in the Italian keyboard the last upper case character to the right of the bottom row is usually an exclamation mark (!), here replaced by the $ symbol. An ancient customization......

I have been an Italian typewriter collector for many many years. At that time, I loved very old typewriters from late 1800s to early 1900s. After a break of a few years I returned to collect typewriters but no longer so old, I prefer now the design of the 40's, 50's and 60's. Yes, I am an affectionate collector of Olivetti, of course, but I'm attracted to all the other brands from that period, not just Italian.
