Description:
A Royal model O typewriter. This typewrite came to me from an antique shop that was looking to sell items it acquired from an estate. The previous owner bought it as a display piece from an auction house. Somewhere along the line, the original case got separated and it came to me bare. I obtained a suitable replacement in order to better protect it when not out being used or displayed, but it isn't an exact match and the front feet don't mate with the pins in the case. Still, it does it's job and I'm not going to complain.
When I got this, there was a serious ribbon lift offset (almost half the ribbon height), meaning that the red setting printed black and the black setting didn't print at all. Pray you never have to make such an adjustment on this typewriter 'cause 'tain't fun!
After cleaning it up and making the various adjustments, it types really nicely and the keys move quite smoothly. The carriage especially moves really nicely on its bearings. This is one typewriter I am surely glad is in my collection!

Collector of several things, including typewriters, slide rules, and mechanical calculators.
Started collecting typewriters in 2023 with a Royal HHE like the one I did my first book report on when I was in school and using my dad's old typewriter.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal O on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal O By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
