Description:
This Olivetti M40 typewriter is one of the earliest second series specimen. It has all the second series features like coil covers, bodywork closed on the sides, different logos on the paper rest and front, etc. but it still has the glossy paint job like the first series. Well preserved, on rear, the autarkic logos typical of Italian products of the period between 1936 and 1938. Purchased very dirty, probably not in use for at least 30/40 years, it was restored and now looks good and works perfectly.

I have been an Italian typewriter collector for many many years. At that time, I loved very old typewriters from late 1800s to early 1900s. After a break of a few years I returned to collect typewriters but no longer so old, I prefer now the design of the 40's, 50's and 60's. Yes, I am an affectionate collector of Olivetti, of course, but I'm attracted to all the other brands from that period, not just Italian.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti M40 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti M40 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
