1937 L.C. Smith Super-Speed Serial # 1385670B 11 1937 L.C. Smith Super-Speed typewriter, Serial # 1385670B 11 Amanda Wood's 1937 L.C. Smith Super-Speed typewriter. 2026-06-27 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Amanda Wood: 1937 L.C. Smith Super-Speed Serial # 1385670B 11 I bought this typewriter to be a parts donor for my other 1937 L.C. Smith Super-Speed 11 buuuut... it's actually in really great condition and I can't bring myself to do it. So I'm on the hunt for another parts donor (and found a possible) so I can make two beautiful machines out of two nice ones and one crappy one. SIGH. This one will be rehomed when ready to go, though! I don't need to become an L.C. Smith Super-Speed 11 hoarder.
...or do I?

This serial number was so clear compared to my other one! Two first production year Super-Speeds in two days. Weird coincidence.

Came with original metal ribbon spool, but it's exhausted. There are a few arms that are very begrudged to move as well, so the typeface sample will have to wait a little longer.

Update 6/2026: Machine had finally made it onto the bench for TLC. Original metal spools had moved to my personal keeper, but still have correct plastic spools to install here. Pulled good-enough feet off my third Super-Speed and replaced the missing and a really bad foot on this gal. Deep cleaned (so much fuzzy stuff in the interior), special care on the type arm joints, cosmetic clean up, and moving onto final fine tuning. Have a potential buyer which prompted the motivation. Will be glad to both have her out of a box in the garage and back in someone's hands to use. Updated photos and a type sample to come.

First typewriter bought in 6/2023, now at over 30 in my collection with most recorded in the galleries. There's a special place in my heart for Smith-Coronas, blue typewriters, and typewriters from 1964 (my parents' birth year). Prefer manuals to electrics, portables to ultra portables or desktops, but will head home with anything if it's cheap enough and functional/repairable. I've successfully gifted typewriters to two siblings, a best friend, and an in-law. Keeping up with my lifelong tradition of making and repairing by hand. When not typing or working on a typewriter, I'm often reading, gardening (vegetable), preserving harvests (canning, dehydrating, freezing), knitting, sewing, writing letters/short stories, or shooting film photography. I like the slow, analog life.
